MGR. PATRICIA KMETOVÁ

PSYCHOLOGIST AND PLAY THERAPIST

In 2019, I completed a master degree in psychology at the Pan-European University in Bratislava. During my university studies, I undertook professional psychological practice at the faculty hospital in the psychiatry department in Trenčín. I also practiced at the family center "Klbko," participated in daily programs, and engaged with Montessori activities. I worked in children's camps and schools across Slovakia.

Starting in 2018, I worked at the private kindergarten "Veselý vláčik," serving as both a teacher and psychologist. There, I observed and became aware of children's play, communication challenges between parents and children, realizing the therapeutic nature of natural childhood play.

From 2019, I began working at the Clinic of Child Psychiatry at the National Institute of Children's Diseases, encountering a range of mental disorders in children, including depression, OCD, anorexia, bulimia, behavioral disorders, and suicide attempts. Under supervision, I utilized various diagnostic tools and conducted interviews with parents and children.

Since 2020, I've been a child psychologist at the Counseling and Prevention Center in Petržalka, focusing on diagnosing learning disorders, giftedness, attention disorders, and providing guidance in collaboration with special educators and child psychiatrists. I lead counseling sessions for children, parents, and educators, implementing preventive programs on mental health and school choices.

In 2022, I participated in a nationwide study on language comprehension in children aged 4-6, testing children in the Bratislava region and contributing to the development of a new diagnostic method.

Since 2022, I've also worked as a PlayWisely instructor, specializing in a stimulation program for children aged 4 months to 4 years, particularly focusing on those with uneven development, suspected autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, etc.

I've dedicated myself to therapeutic-pedagogical stimulation for children with uneven development using Montessori play therapy. Throughout my practice, I attend various professional development courses and completed a 2-year education program in career and professional guidance for students under the guidance of the Research Institute of Child Psychology and Pathopsychology.

Reflecting on my initial experience in kindergarten, I realized the pressures and expectations placed on children in today's society. Children face constant comparisons, numerous extracurricular activities, and ever-increasing demands, sometimes overshadowing their emotional experiences and the joy of simple play. Acknowledging and fulfilling children's emotional needs are crucial for healthy psychological development, a principle I prioritize.

Currently, I'm undergoing long-term psychotherapeutic training in Play Therapy at the Institute of Family Therapy in Martin.
